Starting a Career in the Field of Diversity / Que(e)reinstieg Antidiskriminierungsarbeit

21 March 2022 Online Zoom Panel Discussion for PhD and Master-Students

You are about to graduate from your PhD or Master’s Program in Social Sciences or Humanities and would like to use your skills in a career that serves underrepresented communities and enables social change. Starting such a career is not often a straightforward process. How can you make a lateral entry from an academic position? Which additional qualifications do you need to have? How do you build your network and support it in turn?
Coming out of “the academic bubble”, we often lack the practical knowledge of how to start such careers. That’s why we’ve invited several panelists to share their personal experiences and advice in building a career that makes a difference in the larger field of diversity:
Heike Fritzsche (Referentin, Referat Forschung und Grundsatzangelegenheiten, Antidiskriminierungsstelle des Bundes, Berlin)
Loubna Messaoudi (CEO BIWOC* Rising, Intersectional Coworking & Social Club, Berlin)
Dhara Sheth (Advisor of Equal Opportunities & Diversity Management Unit, Saarland University)
Petra Stein (Öffentlichkeitsarbeit, Frauen Gender Bibliothek, Saarbrücken)
Sithara Weeratunga (Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin, 360° Programm, Museum der bildenden Künste, Leipzig)

Part of the panel discussion will be open for questions from the audience. If you’d like to discuss a specific issue, please email Yoana Vergilova (vergil@coli.uni-saarland.de) or Charlotte Kaiser (charlotte.kaiser@uni-saarland.de) and we’ll be happy to include your questions in the discussion.
