Rainier Grutman, PhD, University of Ottawa:

A Professor of French, Rainier Grutman has been cross-appointed with the School of Translation and Interpretation since 2004. Trained in Romance languages and comparative literature at various European universities (Namur, Leuven, Madrid) before obtaining his PhD in French Studies from the University of Montreal, he has gone beyond the boundaries of French and francophone literature to publish very widely on both bilingual writers and multilingual texts. His work on (self-)translation has appeared in international journals as well as in several works of reference, most notably the Routledge Encyclopedia of Translation Studies (1998 and 2009), the 2013 IATIS-Yearbook on Self-translation: Brokering Originality in Hybrid Culture, and the Wiley-Blackwell Companion to Translation Studies (with T. Van Bolderen) (2014).
