Gilles Dupuis is an expert in migrant writing and literature in Québec. His first major funded research project (FQRSC, 2003-2006) focused on how migrant writers contributed to reshaping the literary canon and to renewing literary practices in French-speaking Canada. While working on that project, he was invited to present papers in Canada and abroad, many of which led to articles in peer-reviewed journals or book chapters. Following on the pioneering works of Nepveu and Harel, Dupuis’ contribution to the field is regarded as significant, as shown by the chapter on “Transculturalism and écritures migrantes” in the first History of Literature in Canada (French and English) published by Reingard M. Nischik in the United States. Dupuis’s work on migrant writings provides him with a genuine expertise on matters relating to cultural diversity. His contributions have led to the critical reevaluation of some of the most significant analytical concepts used in the field: migration, interculturalism, transculturalism, hybridity, métissage, etc. His more recent work takes on migrant writing on a broader level including parody and pastiche (CRSH, 2008-2011). He is preparing a new project on the representation of terrorism in French-Canadian literature (CRSH, 2015-2017).

Gilles Dupuis was director of the CRILCQ – Centre de recherche interuniversitaire sur la littérature et la culture québécoises –, a research centre conducting projects on diversity, difference and migration. He has worked closely with graduate students, especially for the production of a critical bibliography on diversity and migrant writing in Québec. Out of the six doctoral theses supervised thus far, two were related to the topic of diversity in Europe and Quebec (he has also supervised five master theses on that very topic). His implication as a regular member of the CRILCQ will keep him in a key position to train graduate students in Canada and Europe.

Gilles Dupuis maintains close collaborative relations with Professor Klaus-Dieter Ertler at the Universität Graz in Austria and Professor Alessandra Ferraro at the Università di Udine in Italy. Both Ertler and Ferraro direct centers for Canadian Studies and are experts in migrant literature. Dupuis, Ertler and Ferraro have signed a tripartite agreement between their respective research centers and universities in order to favour faculty and student exchanges and to organize a joint biannual conference on Québec literature. As leading European proponents of Canadian and Québec studies, Ertler and Ferraro will assist with the recruitment of students for the IRTG and provide outside expertise to the IRTG.
