Memories of Diversity – Diversity of Memory / Mémoires de la Diversité – Diversité de la mémoire

Within the framework of its reflections on diversity and temporality, the IRTG Diversity is devoting its 2020 Spring Lecture Series to the theme of memory. The dehistoricization and naturalization of diversity in contemporary discourse conceal the roles of subjectivity and memory in the social construction of difference. Overlapping memories, hidden histories, suppressed stories, narratives from the margins, public rituals, private commemorations, and the unspeakable are simultaneously diversity’s causes and consequences. Through six transatlantic video-conferences at the universities of Montréal, Sarrebruck and Trier, the third edition of the IRTG Spring Lecture Series explores the entanglements of projections and representations of and from the past with contemporary discourses on difference and inclusion.
